IUB implements the Seminar on creating awareness on coronavirus disease & dengue
With the aim of creating awareness and launching a month-long campaign on creating awareness about world’s most deadly disease coronavirus (COVID-19); a Seminar was held at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on February 26, 2020. School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) and School of Life Sciences (SLS) jointly organized this Seminar.
Mr. Atiqul Islam, the newly elected Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation was the Chief Guest of the program.
Prof. Shah M. Faruque, Dean, School of Life Sciences at IUB presented a detailed Keynote in the launching program. Through his presentation, Dr. Faruque stated that coronavirus disease has now become the biggest threat for mankind as its vaccination has not been discovered up until now. Therefore, only the awareness and preventing this deadly disease can save lives. He demonstrated the causes of coronavirus, its symptoms and prevention methodology.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Atiqul Islam thanked IUB for organizing this very timely Seminar and requested its students to become the ambassadors towards securing the wellbeing of their respective communities. He suggested IUB authority to introduce internship program with DNCC and assured to provide all essential support from his Office to make Dhaka city a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and Dengue free place.
Dr. Sanya Tahmina, Additional Director General, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS); Mr. A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB and; Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleque, Dean, SESM also spoke in the program.
Dr. Sanya Tahmina highlighted the action plans that the government has taken to handle the situation that may turn into an epidemic.
Dr. Nafisa Huq, Dean (In-charge), School of Public Health at IUB delivered the vote of thanks.
